ANSWER: Yes. You can contact us via email or call 337 – 478 – 4780. We invite you to select an apartment of your choice and determine your anticipated move-in date. You can pay your deposit, complete an application, and discuss your overall needs with the Assessment Team.
ANSWER: Living at Villa Maria Retirement Center is no different than living in any other private residence. You remain independent and make your own choices. Guests are free to visit at any time. Although we offer a full calendar of activities for your enjoyment, you never have to follow anyone’s schedule but your own.
QUESTION: Can home health agencies provide medical services at Villa Maria Retirement Center?
ANSWER: Yes. Home health agencies provide health care at home – your apartment. Each home health agency has a local office and staff that you may contact to discuss your options for home health care. You may contract with these local providers to provide as little or as much care as you may require or as prescribed by your physician. The home health agency of your choice can evaluate and determine if services are covered under Medicare or other private insurance.
QUESTION: Do I need a medical examination before I enter Villa Maria Retirement Center?
ANSWER: Yes. The State of Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals requires all residents to have their resident physician examine them before entering. A resident can move into the facility after obtaining his or her medical report. This is to assist the resident in remaining independent and aid Villa Maria in providing services specific to the needs of each resident.
QUESTION: Do I need to be ambulatory to move into Villa Maria Retirement Center?
ANSWER: Yes. All residents must be ambulatory to move into Villa Maria Retirement Center, however our personal care aides will assist you with bathing, grooming and dressing when the need arises. Walkers, non-motorized wheelchairs and other devices are allowed and encouraged when necessary to assist residents.
QUESTION: What is dining like? Are there assigned seats?
ANSWER: Three nutritious meals are served in the dining room by Villa Maria staff. You are invited to come to meals at your convenience and may sit anywhere you wish. Snacks, coffee, tea, and other treats are free and available 24 hours a day.
QUESTION: Are utilities included?
ANSWER: Yes. All utilities are included in your monthly rent with the exception of cable TV, internet and telephone charges.
QUESTION: May I bring my car?
ANSWER: Yes. We have safe, well-lit parking areas for those who have vehicles. There are no additional charges for resident or visitor parking.
QUESTION: What other transportation services are available?
ANSWER: Regularly scheduled transportation is available to all residents. If you require a personal trip to the doctor or to any event, the staff can make arrangements for you at no extra charge.
QUESTION: What about emergencies?
ANSWER: Villa Maria Retirement Center is equipped with a state-of-the-art emergency response system which is monitored 24 hours a day by professional personnel of the facility. Our system ensures prompt response and attention at all times. The facility has made arrangements for emergency services via local transport services. Villa Maria is conveniently located near premier medical facilities and we will ensure that you are transported to the hospital of your choice should the need arise. Security cameras are in common areas.
QUESTION: Can I continue to live at Villa Maria if my health deteriorates?
ANSWER: Yes. As long as you are receiving adequate assistance to make it possible for you to live safely at the center, you are welcome to stay. You may arrange for your own assistance through a home health/hospice agency or avail yourself of the services at Villa Maria Retirement Center.
QUESTION: Can I use the Family Life and Community Center?
ANSWER: Yes. All residents have full access to the services available at the Msgr. DeBlanc Family Life Community Center right next door.
QUESTION: Can I bring my own furniture?
ANSWER: Yes. You furnish your new apartment.
QUESTION: Who owns and manages Villa Maria Retirement Center?
ANSWER: The center is owned by the not-for-profit corporation, Our Lady Queen of Heaven Manor. Although affiliated with Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, the board of directors and administrative staff manage the facility. One does not need to be Catholic to reside at the center.
